Open Position: Controller

Overview

Ensures company accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Accountable for the financial operations of the company while ensuring an adequate system of accounting records, controls, and budgets are in place to manage growth, optimize operations, reduce waste and costs, and mitigate risk.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Manages the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day activities of AP/AR, cash disbursements, invoicing/billing, customer credits and collections, payroll, and cost accounting
  • Monitors AP/AR activity to ensure accounts are properly funded and payments/backlog remain within established targets
  • Manages issues and communications with vendors (credit not given, over-charged, incorrectly invoiced, etc.)
  • Reconciles transactions monthly and as needed; Monitors and analyzes monthly expenses and cash flow against budget
  • Prepares solid monthly, quarterly, and annual reports of revenues, transfers, and expenses
  • Performs company financial planning and budget management functions; Manages company investments (CDs)
  • Administers annual financial audit and other audits as necessary
  • Establishes and maintains good control systems for tracking expense accounts and activities
  • Develops and implements effective internal controls and checks to ensure proper assignment of business accounts, timely 3rd party payments, etc.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal budgetary reporting requirements
  • Works with management team to develop business plans and budgets

Experience

  • 7-10 years corporate accounting experience; Small company and/or start-up experience preferred; Strong knowledge of GAAP
  • Experience with QuickBooks or other bookkeeping application software
  • Manufacturing/R&D/Hi-Tech environment experience preferred

Education: BA Accounting, Finance or similar required; MBA helpful
